With impeccable safari pedigrees and a shared passion for the wilderness and African wildlife, the Higgins and Preston families got together and built a dream safari camp on the shores of Lake Kariba, in the Matusadona National Park in the north of Zimbabwe.
Changa Safari Camp is a bright and beautiful spot on life’s demanding horizon, a place of romance and luxury that promises peace and seclusion in an unusual blend of landscapes.
Each day ends with a sun downer on the shore, elephants chomping nearby, a fish eagle marking the moment perfectly… later, tales of excitement are shared with laughter around the fire, and a delicious dinner is the time for tomorrow’s game drive and picnic plans to be discussed. The pace is set by our guests.
Changa provides a base in which to immerse yourself; it’s off the beaten track, away from it all and intriguingly secluded in the heart of an interesting and diverse eco-system, partly man-made, partly formed over centuries. The breathtaking blend of bush, mountains and water in this special spot makes Changa an absolute must on any travel list.
Changa Safari Camp is delighted to announce the conclusion of their second and final building stage. We have added two new Deluxe tents and two family units to our compliment and now boast 6 deluxe tents and two family tents making us a 20 bed camp. Like the originals, the new tents are privately positioned along the shoreline, each with its own deck and panorama of the Lake and Matusadona Mountains. The family units consist of our deluxe safari tent, and to this we have added a smaller replica of the deluxe tent, complete with two 3/4 beds (that can be joined together to make a King), dressing room, separate shower, separate toilet, wash-hand-basin and outside deck. A secure tented corridor / foyer links the two tents. Whilst the new addition can be described as a ‘kids’ tent it is tastefully furnished, private and spacious enough to accommodate adults, and will serve both families and adult groups travelling together.
From Harare, take the Harare Chirundu road through the towns of Banket, Chinhoyi and Karoi till you reach Makuti (Approx 290 kms), where you will turn left and proceed down the escarpment, and travel for 75 kilometers till you reach the town of Kariba. Marineland Harbour is situated just off the main road, turn off at the Total Garage and turn immediately right past the Ice Cream Parlour and Take Away, and a 2 minute drive down the hill towards Zimsun’s Carribea Bay Casino Resort & Hotel and you will find Marineland’s Harbour on the left.
The drive will take about 5hrs.
The boat transfer will take about 30/40 mins if weather permits.
