Your private accommodation will offer you a view of the largest, most famous river in Southern Africa. Tafika Zambezi camps are fully catered facilities inclusive of accommodation, all meals, refreshments, boat hire, tackle and bait. You will share the pool, bar, and dining area with other guests and, while relaxing and reliving the day's adventures you will look out on to the magnificent Zambezi. Tafika Zambezi Fishing Safaris currently have two luxury fishing camps on the Lower Zambezi, Tafika and Shamashanga offering some of the most impressive sport fishing and game viewing in the Zambezi Valley. Each camp has a team of professional river guides who are there to assist you with finding the best fishing or game viewing spots, preparation of fishing equipment and also with refreshments and light meals.
Shamashanga accommodates up to 16 guests in eight large, luxury East African-style tents. The camp is situated near the old G-Camp site in the Sapi Safari Area. Each walk-in tent has a private en-suite bathroom with a shower, and are furnished to a high standard with twin three-quarter beds.
There is a large main lodge housing the dining room, bar and lounge area. There is an outside open-fire-pit with fantastic views over the Zambezi perfect for pre-dinner sun downers and post dinner coffees. There is a small plunge pool situated off to the side, out of view of the main lounge and dining area.
Related to the infamous Piranha, the Tiger Fish (Hydrocynus vittatus) is renowned for its fighting spirit and voracious hunting abilities. Depending on your preferences and skills, he can be caught by fly rod, bait or lure and, whatever the method, is one of the greatest freshwater game fish in the world.
The Lower Zambezi offers some of the very best opportunities for Tiger fishing and with over 40km of river frontage available, both novice and seasoned anglers are virtually assured the challenge of landing this fine fish. Tiger are considered the prime big game fish but the river also offers great fishing for tasty bream, the abundant chessa and the old man of the river, the vundu! The best months for angling are September through to November and March through to June, however due to the high temperatures experienced in the Zambezi Valley, fishing is virtually a year round past-time!
Our Skimmers (pontoon style) boats are equipped with 85hp motors and are ideal for the shallow waters and submerged sandbanks often encountered on this section of the Lower Zambezi.
Apart from the all-important cooler boxes with all their refreshments and packed lunches, life jackets, paddles, UHF radios and basic first aid kits are all standard equipment on the boats. Each boat is driven by a fully licensed boat captain whose knowledge of the Zambezi River and its' flora and fauna will lead you to the best fishing spots and game viewing areas.
Tafika Zambezi provide quality fishing equipment on the boats; including Shimano rods, reels and tackle, most of which is being promoted by Gander Mountain, one of America's biggest outdoor equipment outlets.
CATCH AND RELEASE
Tafika Zambezi do encourage catch & release. We can organize to have worthwhile trophy fish mounted, however we do prefer to have glass fibre duplicate trophies made for our clients. Should you wish to make use of either of these services please speak to your camp managers.
